My girls love to create their very own works of art - and they especially enjoy it when they create something to keep (you know - more special than coloring books and construction paper). We make it a habit to take our girls out for one-on-one time with each parent from time to time, and as it was time for a Mother Daughter Date with Kayla, my 5 year old and future artist - she asked for a trip to Paint, Glaze, and Fire, a favorite paint-your-own pottery shop. We opted to visit "just for fun" but it's a great place to make gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthdays, and Holidays. It's also a great way to decorate kids' rooms or the house with your own one-of-a-kind signature style - while spending time together.

How It Works:
Have you driven past a Paint Your Pottery Shop and thought, that sounds like fun but I'm not sure exactly how it works? No worries! You're not alone. In fact, the team is there to help you select pieces, colors, and brainstorm. They know how to get you started from the simplest project to something more detailed.
First, you select a piece of pottery to paint. This may range from a mug, plate or dish, to a ceramic figurine or ornament. They offer a range of projects from small to large. You'll see samples and books throughout the store to help inspire ideas and techniques. Then, you will select your paint colors. A team member will explain the process for the best effect or help with techniques if needed. Then you are left to paint your project while enjoying a smoothie or coffee. Once complete, it will take about a week for the piece to be fired and prepared for you. You will have to come back to pick it up.
Anyone can paint! My toddlers have painted mugs for Father's Day, the older girls have chosen more detailed projects, I have painted gifts, and we have used footprint project ideas to create family presents. It is a great way to enjoy some creativity over the summer and you're making something that lasts!
