Review: Taco Via

by

As a kid, my sisters and I loved when Mom and our Grandma would take us to Taco Via' after my sister's ballet class, and now I have introduced it to my husband and son.  Although they have recently moved across the street into a new, larger space, thankfully they have not changed the menu. It's so nice when a restaurant has stayed open for so long in your hometown.  Even the arcade games made the move!  This family franchise is certainly doing something right to keep everyone coming back for more since 1968.

A cult favorite is the Nacho (tostada shell with melted cheese, their signature sauce, and jalapeños); so cheesy, so crunchy, so good!! I really love their taco sauce, not chunky at all, with the perfect amount of spiciness, just the way I like it. It is hands down the best sauce I have ever tasted, in my humble opinion. How I wish they would bottle it!

Another crowd-pleaser is the Sancho, a Taco Via' specialty that is a cross between a soft taco and a burrito that is nearly a meal in itself.

However, our favorite menu item is still the glorious CHOCO-TACO (a sugar cone shaped like a taco, filled with ice cream and fudge then dipped in chocolate and peanuts)!!  Yes, you can find it elsewhere now, but this is where my sisters and I first tasted its sweet, chocolate-y crunchiness.

If you prefer only truly authentic Mexican cuisine, then this is not the place for you. Taco Via' is Kansas City's version of dine-in fast food with a Mexican flare (Taco Bell ain't got nothin' on the Via'), and I wouldn't want them to change a thing; it's what makes this place so special to its fans.

Just writing about it now makes me want to make a Taco Via' run!  I just might...

Taco Via' is located at 8896 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS and is open 10:30am-9:30pm.There are also two other locations in Olathe and Lee's Summit.
